Stanley Kubrick's Aryan Papers

The BFI are showing ‘Stanley Kubrick’s Aryan Papers‘, an art installation by the Turner-prize nominated artists Jane and Louise Wilson which focuses on one of Kubrick’s unfinished projects, the Aryan Papers.
Kubrick planned on making the Holocaust film based on Louis Begley’s book ‘Wartime Lies’, but having done extensive research, written the screenplay and even casted Dutch actor ‘Johanna ter Steege’ in the lead role postponed shooting in favor of another project ‘A.I’. Kubrick’s studio Warner’s announced that Kubrick would either produce or direct the film after ‘A.I’s’ completion however possibly because of the release of Spielberg’s ‘Schindler’s List’ this never happened.

The Wilson sister’s installation is based on access to and extensive research made of the ‘Stanley Kubrick Archive‘ and uses new footage of Johanna ter Steege combined with Kubrick’s production shots from the project, finally giving the actor “a visibility which was denied to her by the final course of events”.
The exhibition is on at the BFI from 13th February to the 19th April 2009 and is accompanied by a series of films selected by Jane and Louise Wilson. More information on the project can be found at ‘Animate Projects‘.
