The Pencil Project An open source prototyping extension for Firefox 3 that allows a user to create GUI prototypes using built in stencils which can be saved and exported as .pngs.
It looks like it could be pretty handy for the odd job but I found it slightly quirky and slow compared to using an offline application, also there’s a current lack of stencils (shape collections) which I guess will change. Where it might come in handy is rapid prototyping with clients at brainstorming sessions. One to watch as more developers come on board and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of these online tools.

Today must mark an important day in the history of car manfacturing. Honda have begun the first commercial production of a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell powered car, the FCX Clarity. Okay you still need fossil fuels to generate hydrogen plus a network of fueling stations to keep you going but it’s a start. With a limited production run of 200 cars over the next three years, the car’s initially only available on lease (California and Japan later this year), similar to how the the ill-fated General Motor’s EV1 was offered. Let’s hope it fares better.

- Earthscape - Virtual earth software on the iPhone that uses the inbuilt accelerometers to navigate. Check out the video.
- Flowww - Web 2.0 application that uses a ‘Cover Flow‘ type UI to navigate news sites. It’s a great navigation interface (Apple OS) but when used like this I’m not convinced.
