Knowledge of all fonts - BBC News ‘In Pictures’ article on typefaces used in movie posters. It includes a comment on the use of Futura for Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

“Futura was the official font of the Apollo moon landing program,” he explains.

“Because it’s based on geometric features - the square, the circle and the triangle - it’s got an inherent simplicity and timelessness.”

Possibly correct but it also happened to be Kubrick’s favourite typeface as mentioned by Tony Frewin in Jon Ronson’s Citizen Kubrick interview. Anyway nice to see an article on type linked to from the news front page.

• StackOverflow - Question and answer site for programmers. From the sounds of it, questions get answered super-quick.

Connected: Airport Signage, Book Cover Design, Tart Cards

• There’s a fantastic post on Sander Baumann’s ‘Designworkplan’ about airport signage along with an inspired vector collection of arrows symbols.
• Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport signage and way finding system designed by Paul Mijksenaar is hard to beat and he has a great article on his site about designing for airports including the work he did for the Port Authority of New York
  & New Jersey.
• Some nice work from the 25 finalists of the Penguin Books USA and Creativity Online competition to design a cover for the forthcoming novel, ‘The Island at the End of the World’.
• Design a Type Tart Card and help raise funds for the St Bride Library.
