Ever wondered where the product you’ve just bought came from. Now you can find out with Sourcemap, an online collaboration tool for visualising supply chains behind everyday objects.

It’s been brewing for a while but today the Guardian released ‘ Open Platform‘, a set of APIs with client libraries that make it possible to use Guardian data to build applications. There’s a couple of examples up already including Stamen Design‘s API Maps. I expect some really good things to come out of this openness, now wouldn’t it be great to see government doing something similar!

• Trulia Hindsight – Animated map of homes in the US that uses historical data to show growth and development over time.

• Dream cars of the future – A collection of jet inspired car designs from the General Motors ‘Motorama’ that ran from 1949-1961 via Lifelounge.
• Design mistakes – Gomediazine are running an interesting series of articles on mistakes made by designers in the music and clothing industry. There’s some great insights here from designers such as Rob Dobi, Dan Mumford and Jimmy Heartcore.
• Islands of Consciousness – Interesting interactive Flickr/audio mashup from the creator of Flickeur

• Star Wars ‘Icon Series’ – Star War’s inspired T-Shirts and posters designed by Mitch aka Mitchy Bwoy.
• Show Us a Better Way. UK Government sponsored competition set-up by MP Tom Watson’s Power of Information Taskforce for the best use of publicly available data. There’s some great idea’s coming in already.
• iA have released an online version of their 2008 Web Trend Map

• Great collection of infographics covering all aspects of SEO from Elliance.
• Adapting Websites to Users. Interesting article on realtime website changes (morphing) made to fit the cognitive style of the user. Apparently it’s been tested on a prototype for British Telecom.
• OS Openspace – Javascript based API from the Ordnance Survey
