Flickr founder’s Stewart Butterfield and Cal Henderson’s new project ‘Glitch‘ goes into alpha testing this week. Currently in development, it’s a ‘massively-multiplayer game, playable in the browser and built in the spirit of the web’ and is set to launch later this year. Teaser video looks amazing.

For some reason I keep returning to this Flickr set, Lego Star Wars by Balakov aka Mike Stimpson. Fantastically playful!

A special day, not just for America but for the whole world. Here’s some of the sites and app’s that shared some great content. I was expecting a Twitter meltdown but that didn’t happen. Guess everyone was too wrapped up in the moment.

• Compfight. Excellent Flickr search tool that allows for searches based on tags, text and creative commons settings.
• From the makers of Desktop Tower Defence and Flash Element TD comes ‘The Casual Collective‘, a social gaming site with a mix of online multi-player games including the highly addictive Desktop TD.
• Love the simplicity of the Ian Mahaffy and Maarten De Greeve’s winning entry in the City Racks Design Competition.

• Boxee – Trying out Boxee at the moment. Based on XBMC it’s a cross platform media centre with a difference – social media interaction. Users can view, rate and recommend content pulled from a host of social media apps including Flickr, Last.FM and YouTube. The interface is designed to be remote driven but can be used with a keyboard/mouse. As its alpha it’s still fairly buggy but overall it offers some great features and functionality.

• The Shape of Alpha – Plotting geographic boundaries using Flickr image geodata.

• Biscuit Tin from Magnetic North. Neat way of viewing a users Flickr collection

• Matt Webb’s 100 Head Cattle Drive – Help Matt Webb get his herd of 100 plastic cows and raise money for charity at the same time.

• City Shrinker – Nice collection of tilt-shift photography
• Wolda, the worldwide logo design annual announce their 2008 winners. Talking about logo’s, anyone seen Creative Reviews new identity?

• The King of Kong, A Fistful of Quarters – Finally managed to find some time to watch this documentary on the battle by Steve Wiebe to beat Billy Mitchell’s 25 year old Donkey Kong Hi-Score. Fantastic stuff!
• Droid Fonts – Ascenders font collection for Google’s Android platform
• StackOverflow – Question and answer site for programmers. From the sounds of it, questions get answered super-quick.
